Cozy Cottage: Available January 1st

Hello friends! We have a tiny house available to rent at the Emerald Village, we call it “The Cottage”. We think it’s a super cute space, and it’s definitely not for everyone so we’re going to tell you about the pros and the cons. We will start with details about the house, then talk about what it means to be a part of this community (equally as important).

About The Cottage

• The tiny house is 22 ft long with a California King bed in the back (see pictures)
  • It has a low ceiling height, so not great for anyone taller than 6 feet (Dave is 5’10”, lived comfortably in it for 2 years)
• There is a wood burning stove, and it heats the whole house very quickly
  • We have essentially unlimited firewood on the property, but chopping and hauling is required
  • There are single pane windows and very old insulation, so it gets very cold in the winter if not heated
  • A space heater can be used, but there is an additional electricity charge depending on usage
• There is an outdoor shower attached to the house (see pictures), shared by 2-3 people
• The closest toilet is a compost toilet, approximately 100 ft away
• There is a 5 gallon ceramic water dispenser used for drinking water (and brushing teeth)
  • There is no sink or running water in the cottage itself
• All cooking is done in the Tea House, an indoor/outdoor space near the Cottage
  • The Tea house kitchen is shared with 3 other residents, and there is plenty of fridge and food storage space
• Comes with a wall-mounted 32″ Smart TV (can be removed if desired)
  • House is outfitted with smart lights and an Amazon Echo (Alexa), this can be altered if desired
• Comes with a couch/bed, good for a guest bed or lounging. This may or may not be the ideal set up for someone moving in to the house, furniture can be moved if desired.
• Lots of storage (see pictures) plus storage underneath the bed for big stuff
• Available January 1st, 2022 (not before)
• Minimum 3 month rental, if both parties (you and the community) are happy, agreement is month-to-month after that
• Only suitable for 1 adult, no couples, no kids
  • Dogs and cats are considered on a case-by-case basis
• Rent: $925, includes all utilities

About The Emerald Village

• 9 acre property in Vista, California, near the border of Bonsall
• 13 adults, 5 kids
• Started 2011, we celebrated our 10th anniversary last April with this wonderful documentary one of the residents made (it’s a 40 minute movie, and a great way to get a feel for the community and the folks at it)
• Minimum requirements of all residents:
  • Attend monthly work blitz (1st Saturday of each month)
  • Cook & pay for one community meal per month (in a team of two)
  • Join at least 1 circle (a circle is a group of people who manage a certain aspect of the community)
